Below is a list of the completed investigations of the Directorate of Market Abuse (DMA) as at the last Directorate meeting of: 28 June 2011.
These investigations were into possible cases of insider trading, market manipulation or false statements. What are these offences?
Insider trading and market manipulation cases are not into the affairs of the companies listed but into trading in securities on the South African financial markets. Some of the investigations were into dealing in securities on financial markets in foreign jurisdictions. In these cases, the DMA assisted foreign regulators with their investigations. The investigations into possible false reporting relate to the publication of false statements regarding, or by, listed companies.
The list includes all insider trading investigations executed by the predecessor of the DMA, the Insider Trading Directorate (ITD). The DMA replaced the ITD in February 2005, and since then the DMA has been investigating insider trading, market manipulation and false reporting.
Current investigations are not included in this list.
